Xbox One was designed with an eye on the future

From Wolfenstein developer Larry Mudd

It just bothers me that most of the games on last gen consoles were running around 30fps and no one b****** about it.

Well, sure - but that was last gen. It's eight years later, now - and even last gen, the big dogs for twitchy games aimed for 60fps.

Anyway, you've got resolution, framerate, and pixel quality - and it's totally normal that there's a lot of emphasis on differences between any of these metrics on either console this gen, because so far there is a notable deficit on Xbox. I think this talk will die down within a year or so, because the gap will narrow. Xbox One was designed with an eye on the future. We see a closing of the gap with Wolfenstein, because the way textures are streamed is relatively new, and mirrors what Xbox One is designed for. (ie; the render target easily fits into the small pool of high-bandwidth ESRAM, because you don't have to fit the whole damned level's textures in there to get the benefit of its speed.)

MS is banking on PRT/Tiled Resources/Megatextures becoming the norm, because it's an overall better approach to textures. You don't need to depend on repeating the same texture in order to conserve memory, so your environments will look more natural and immersive. Once you switch to this method (and why wouldn't you?) that 32MB of fast memory is more than adequate - your textures are moved from the relatively-pokey, inexpensive DDR3 as needed. It's only a deficit as long as you're coding like it's 2012.

Well this is out and in the open, get ready for insecure and depressed Sony fanboys to raid this thread. This also explains why Ryse is the best looking next generation game by far.

*~Waiting For~* Borderlands PreSequel, The Witcher 3, Dragon Age: Inquisition, Destiny, Sacred 3, The Division and Pokemon Alpha Sapphire.

I'm confused, I thought the future was media based? You know, all in one machine?

But it's already been stated by developers the xbox one is not as developer friendly because of things like the ESRAM. Don't understand how a console with lesser hardware would be able to close the gap versus hardware that is better.

Lol that statement again.

You can lol all you want kid,, that doesn't change the fact the man is right. There is a new coding paradigm underway, and only Xbox is prepared for it.

Powah of the cloud - Sony adopted this, and have GaiKai on the way
DX12 - turned out it wasn't a hoax. Works on all hardware (unlike Mantle)
Different architecture - esram wasn't a bottleneck after all (unless of course you code like in the past)

Eye on the future?
If that future is when everyone gets salary above $2000, housed and fed by Govt with $200 to spare weekly, and care about graphics and ease of game, ignore innovative controls and frame per second rate.
Then, YES.
