So is it really possible to make the xb1 more powerful then the ps4

with software updates ?

As before all the talk of the xb1 getting a software update to improve performance dramatically, I thought the only real way to improve performance was to get bigger and better hardware ?

If they can do it with software, we would never need a new console as we could just get software updates every 2-3 years to help performance of current gen consoles so no need to upgrade.

It was a little funny at first but... really?

It could be possible, I've been downloading RAM on my PC for years. Surely it will be simple enough to bring that option to consoles

I am not being smart or trying to annoy anyone just asking a question. Because I heard a lot of people that said dx12 wil make the xb1 around 20% more powerful. But im not really a tech guy but that seems unlikely to me with just improved software.

New DirectX versions should help.

Also, tiled resource methods will help too in the future.

No.

The fact that the base hardware (processor, memory etc) in the PS4 is all faster than what the XBox One has, means that no amount of software updates is ever going to make the XBox One more powerful. People seriously just need to get used to this fact.
