EA demo pricing is an error.

That thread is full of tin foil hat comedy and at least one blatant troll that got a ton of bites

It really was a hilarious read. I especially liked the, "There's no way this could possibly be a glitch," comments.

Oh, it wasn't an error. It was a test. A test to see how we'd respond. EA is watching us, man, through the Kinect, man. It's all a giant "Can we charge for demos? Konami got away with it, so why not us?" conspiracy!!!

If it was an error, why did it have that very specific price point?

If it had been $59.98 for the demo I'd believe it was a glitch.

They were testing the waters to see how people responded.

They're not going to admit they actually plan(ned) to charge for demos, even though they have said something very similar in the past.

The fact that it was every demo and a very specific price don't really agree with the glitch thing.
#7lunaticcorePosted 7/4/2014 9:16:23 AM
Those paid for glorified game demos were full arcade games.

The fact that there was suddenly a charge for a demo that was free for 6+months and no charge on the other platforms makes it pretty clearly an error. Nobody needed to test the waters for the obvious reaction.

Man, you guys sure are right about the price point. $4.99 is such a weird, uncommon price for something. I don't think I've seen anything priced for that exact amount, unlike the regular, common prices of $59.98, $47.69, and so forth. Such incredibly solid logic. I don't know what I was thinking.

Seriously though, what exactly makes $4.99 a "very specific price point?"

I'm not a conspiracy theorist, but I have trouble believing this was an "error". It looks more like they're back pedaling on an idea they thought they'd try, and it failed miserably.

EA's reputation proceeds them. Even if this were an error, it's their own fault for why so many consumers are skeptical.
