I think they'd be nearly tied with the PS4 ahead.

I don't think it would be any different.

MS still has a bunch of consumer resentment over the initial reveal.

They would have been in the lead. They already had a bunch of fans from the 7th gen waiting to chip out their money on the new xbox, but MS's arrogance and stupidity turned a lot of those fans away.

I'd say it'd be neck-and-neck, too close to call.

At that price, even though I think the Kinect is a dog (the way it's used any way), the whole system would have been worth it. I believe at that price they could have mopped up the competition, regardless of any ill will from what Microsoft had done/undone/lied about.

I'm a Day One purchaser who never wanted a Kinect, so I feel screwed right now. What I wanted was a gaming console. Period.

But, at 399, even the fact that the X1 is underpowered would have been acceptable to me because I could have sold the Kinect (if I chose to) for 80-100 bucks, meaning I would have paid about 299-319 for the console--and that, to me, would have been a fair price considering the more powerful PS4 is priced at 399.

"Correct. Xbox One is Kinect." Microsoft VP
Really...seems this Day One Edition purchaser was "Madoff-ed by Microsoft."

I think they'd be winning, whether it came with the Kinect or not at $399, just based on how the sales were for the 360. IMO the Kinect being forced along with the $100 price difference is what left a sour taste in peoples' mouths as they saw it as the sole reason for the higher cost (and this was proven, obviously). That turned more people off from the console than anything else I can think of since they ditched the DRM policies.

In Australia there was only a $50 price difference between the two..and you couldnt buy a ps4 for like 4 months but xbox was always available...so I dont think it would of made much of a difference

Exactly. When you are dropping $400 on a useless luxury item you will spend 100 more if you want it.

Im not quite sure why people let the price bother them so much.

Depends, but I think the biggest killer was the DRM fiasco. If they launched at that price with the DRM still in effect, they would still be behind. They really shot themselves in the foot.
