DOOM Xbox One will be "nitpicked to death" if we show gameplay too soon

For those trying to damage control the KZSF fiasco, here's what you need to know.

"The Titanfall beta which received some flack from “insiders” was running at 1408 pixels by 792 pixels which gives us 1,115,136 pixels

The multiplayer for Killzone Shadow Fall was running at 960 pixels by 1080 pixels which yields 1,036,800 pixels placing it UNDER the Titanfall BETA. With only a 115,200 pixel difference between Killzone and 720p, I think its safe to say the game was just over 720p."

Why would you compare it to a game that looks completely different?

The latest Super Mario game runs at 1080p as well, it doesn't mean we compare it to Ryse.

Microsoft has an untitled game coming out in 2 years. They are still in the early stages, but digital foundry has obtained some early concept art and plans on analyzing the resolution and framerate for flaws so we will know if the game will be good or not. I'm glad they are always there to remind us what gaming is all about.

Not comparing them, just playing Sony Ponies favorite game: I'm counting pixels.

And Titanfall re-renders all those pixels every frame.

Killzone doesn't. It re-renders half, then uses previous frames and directional vectors to render the other half. Thus producing a full, unscaled, NATIVE 1920x1080 image that is displayed on screen.

So yes, Killzone is rendering less pixels in each frame, but the final image pushed to the screen still contains more pixels, and thus is a much higher quality image.

Which doesn't make sense when they're different games.

It makes sense when they're the same game, except for that pixel count.

Guerrilla did some innovative trickery to give players the best possible IQ while maintaining performance, good on 'em. Same as how I applaud Crytek for lowering the rez on Ryse to give better overall IQ - both decisions were the right ones, imo.

Sure, DF didn't figure out what Guerrilla did. They also screwed up an early capture of a pre-release version of BF4 resulting in the X1 version having crushed blacks. They occasionally mess up, as do we all. However, they are mostly correct in their analysis and for people who own both consoles it's a great tool for making an informed purchase.

Most of the complaining about DF is from single console owners who are trying to rationalize their purchase and reassure themselves. No one wants to feel like their version is second best. Last gen it was Sony fans, now it's Xbox fans doing this.

On the topic of Doom this explanation seems like a cop-out. This project has been in development hell and has had at least one complete reboot because Bethesda felt it simply wasn't good enough. I'm hoping it turns out but we'll have to see. Technically we already should have a good idea as to how it will perform since we have two Id Tech 6 games already released on console - Rage and Wolfenstien. Doom will likely maintain a rock solid framerate while dynamically dropping rez to maintain performance as needed. We will likely see X1 drop rez more often and to a greater extent to maintain performance than PS4.

Probably the biggest "ouch" moment I can think of, one of the most embarrassing things I've ever seen - hilarious. Sony Ponies are known as the joke of the internet for many reasons, but this particular reason.... just priceless

Bye little fella, and remember: We're not here to make sense - we count pixels, that's what we do; and this by itself makes no sense.

Again, you're not making a point here, just posting pictures.

What is your point? That some people mocked Titanfall for it's resolution?

People mocked it for it's resolution AND looking like it did.
You simply expect a game that looks like it's last gen (because it was a port) to run at a higher resolution.

Titanfall (although fun) is not a pretty game, yet it still only manages 792p(?)
Killzone is probably the best looking shooter out on any console and it runs on native 1080p both multiplayer and singleplayer, just using different techniques.

You seem convinced you're actually making a point, but you're not.
It's quite funny.
