Destiny sandbox designer Sage Merrill shows off just how superpowered you can get once you hit (and exceed) the level-20 cap.

Ha I knew I wasn't tripping when I saw those level 25 gear and weapons.

Ok so level cap as far as I understand it.

Earning XP will only get you to level 20. After that the XP you earn only goes towards the gear you are leveling up at the time.

You will start to find gear that has an attribute called "light"
If you are a level 20 and you have 5 pieces of gear that have 1 attribute of light each, your level now becomes 25.
Having light increases the damage your abilities (grenades, melee, super) deal to higher level enemies.

The only thing level 20 means is that you are able to equip any gear in the game as I don't think there will be any gear requiring a higher level (I could be wrong).

Every piece of gear however has its own leveling. You may find yourself a total badd-ass at level 30, until you find a new better weapon that will require a grind to level up that said weapon, or helmet, gauntlets, boots, and so on.

Also you will want to have legendary weapons, of each class (primary, special, heavy) that do damage to different shields (arch, solar, void)

That's funny, I remember lots and lots of people after playing the beta complaining and even "cancelling" their pre orders because they didn't want a level 20 cap.

That sounds freaking EPIC. There's just something about WoW that got me hooked where you put on a piece of gear and just slowly raise your gearscore it kept me hooked for years.

Then when I played the beta I really felt this EXACT vibe.

I do not feel that way about borderlands at all, ever. Hype meter 100%.
