that stereo adaptor doesn't work with standard 360 headsets right?

I don't mind using my own earbuds or phones but don't really talk enough on live to feel the need to have another plastic headset laying around

Standard 360 headsets use a 2.5mm cable, where the adapter is 3.5mm. In order for them to work you need an adapter which should be really cheap, a simple 2.5mm to 3.5mm would work.

The stereo adapter comes with a 2.5 to 3.5 cable, so yes, 360 headsets work.

Source: I own one and use a 360 headset for it.

Yeah, some last gen 3rd party headsets will work too, you'll need a talk back cable though.
