Yes it is covered. I replaced mine when I first got the system since the Kinect was pretty much DOA out of the box. My replacement has worked great since I got it though.

Good...stupid thing won't stop turning off and on for no reason and I use the voice commands too much to *not* have the thing. <___<

welp you might as well send it in before the warranty's up then as I am going to do because all the potential fixes about it I found online do nothing

why would I void the warranty?

the potential fixes I spoke of were mainly unplug it for 30 seconds, plug it back in, unplug both it and the console for 5 minutes, stuff like that, nothing like cracking it open or anything like that
