Yeah thats how its done for most bundles these days. The industry is really trying to do away with retail games entirely, like the music industry did. It may take a couple more gens but it will get there eventually.

It's cost savings, not "trying to do away with retail games". It costs less to print a flyer with a redeem code than it does to make a disc and case. Plain and simple.

Well if that's the case, the digital copy shouldn't be the same price as a retail copy, since there is no cost for a case, disc, shipping, etcetera.

It shouldn't be, but it is. Your talking about a different animal now though, comparing a digital release to a physical. I am talking about in a bundle where they are already giving you a game for "free". Naturally they will give it to you in the cheapest way possible.

Deals with Gold? PS+ flash sales?

I think the console creators are offering Steam-like discounts. It's not there yet, but 75% of the way. Within the last year, DWG has offered better prices than GameStop on many major X360 games.

Hence the reason why many can't get behind it on consoles. Unlike Steam, there aren't constant sales or deep discounts.

Blame retail stores for that one. If MS or Sony try to lower the price of Digital, Retail stores get all Mad because of it.

This is accurate. They can not do consistent sales of great measure without alienating the retail market. If they do that they run the risk of losing many customers.

The places make money when a retailer purchases their game not when a customer purchases from a retailer.
