What next gen should be

But the corporations know they don't have to push this hard to get $65 dollars out of you...

As a matter of fact, they are recycling games from the 90's complete with 16-bit graphics...and they are the new RAVE scoring 9's and 10's

MS knew they didn't have to build a powerhouse...they took a page out of the wii's book last gen. Who manage to outsell both...what do we need more power for when these 50mb digital dominate the media and our systems? lol

I laughed when they said the 360 could go well into 10 years...now with the 2D craze I see their point. They are no longer with pushing technology and it's limits. They are no longer concerned with blowing peoples minds, just putting enough out there to maximize their profits.

My point for this thread is that, if we don't demand better they will continue shovel out this last gen +1 crap

Year 1. Games take longer to make, cost more, they'll get better over time.

I'd be more worried about all the pixel games flooding the market than the remastered ones.

Next gen consoles will go back to 16 bits.

Not expecting this batch of consoles to do anything like that.

Will be surprised if the next ones don't though.

Yeah, the next xbox will likely be a powerhouse like the original and 360 after all the 1080p this and digital foundry that.

believe it or not, they could have

the video game market has changed from mindblowing to give them just enough...

if the market dropped due to the flooding of flash based arcade games, and uninspiring sequels, they would be forced to work a little harder to bring people in

the bad thing about this is that PC's now can do this, but since most sales come from consoles...the develop on consoles...then port it out everywhere

the majority of games are developed for last gen, then polished up (frame rate, resolution boost) for PC and next gen...

...and people are just fine with that

I always wonder how people always seems to expect every new console to have hardware that wont hit the PC market for another 3 years, being sold for $299 and have all developers use the full power of the system at launch.

Actually...the 360 had comparable hardware to upper middle class PC's when it released...they sold the 360 at a loss for the first 2 years (probably no thanks to the red ring)...

this time around they are selling at a profit right out of the gate...because they went the cheap route.

they went cheap and they still will be able to yank $65 out of your pocket for last gen+ games

Consoles are holding gaming back... they have the attitude of: Why give them more when they will pay the same for much less?

Microsoft has been selling their consoles at a lost since the first Xbox, Sony has done it since the PS1, Nintendo was the only company that actually earned something with every sold console.
...until the Wii U...
Consoles are not holding "gaming" back, developers are.
Just look at all PC exclusive games, why are they not looking THAT much better if consoles are the only thing holding back prettier graphics?
Why aint Blizzard releasing WoW in a new uber-realistic graphical engine? You can't say that it's impossible to do, Ultima Online changed their 2D engine into a 3D engine with one patch ages ago.
I will tell you why, because they want their games to run on more computers, giving them a higher chance of a bigger market.
I havn't looked at Steams hardware surveys lately, but before summer most PCs had less than 8 GB RAM and most people had a resolution of less than 1080p on their monitors.
It is not worth it for developers to push graphical demanding games because it will cost them more and it will only attract a smaller market.
But hey, let's blame it on consoles instead, because it's easier to blame others.

I built my PC like 4 years ago...it's still more powerful than next gen consoles.
That power was never utilized...accept for 2 PC only games ARMA2 and Crysis...

2 games consoles have yet to topple as far as graphics

But you are right...those games were benchmarkers, and not many could run them at highest settings BACK THEN...People who couldn't run them at max still bought the game and enjoyed them...

It only took 3GB of RAM to recreate and run the city of Fallujah, Irag in ARMA2
the systems we have now are 8GB...yet they are bent on giving us last gen "remasters"...

The PC market is smaller than the console market...it only makes good business sense to develop for the lowest common denominator (console), and port it up...

When the PC market was bigger, they would bake the cake, then spend time and money taking ingredients out to squeeze it into consoles...

It's much easier to bake the cake then put the icing on it for more powerful systems.
http://youtu.be/QT54QWvAOgQ

As you can see in the video...you have far cry running on a 5 y/o 512mb system VERSUS a 8GB PC running it at max settings...

Thats because the game was made for console then ported up...The frame rate and resolution bump does not justify the $3500 price I paid to build my rig...you can see the same pattern in all other PC ports...So I use my power PC as a internet surfer now lol

The minute they drop support for last gen...is when the next gen will start...and it will drag PCs along...
