Since it's basically clear the game will be both retail and a download, I was curious to see how many would get cartridges, and who would make the jump to downloads.

Both games, both of them cartridges. Because at some point there will be an event Pokemon that isn't released in America, and I can't AR a digital copy. >_>

I'm still not sold on buying digital counterparts to physical games when the price is the exact same, especially when I live 3 minutes from Target/Walmart/Best buy/Gamestop.

I can resell the pokemon game when I buy it physical. Making my purchase closer to 20$ instead of 40$ in the end.

I will buy digital if it's on sale cheaper than the physical counterpart.

This indeed. Digital copies should take off manufacturing and material costs. If digital cost = retail cost, there's bigger incentive to go retail.
