Why are Gen 1 & 2 beloved?

Gen 1&2 aren't beloved here, that's for sure.

Where did this sudden hatred of Gen 1 and 2 come from? Christ.

Pokemon Red and Blue are classics, without them, you wouldn't even have X or Y. The original Legend of Zelda doesn't hold a candle to modern installments but you don't see anybody debating if its a classic.

Gold and Silver were released when pokemania was at an all-time high. Think Call of Duty but multiply that times 200.

Are the older games as good as the newer ones? Probably not, but you have no right to critique someone for liking the older games just as much as the newer ones.

The issue is people acting like they are superior to the new ones mechanically which is simply untrue.

No one is debating this. The problem comes when people claim Gen 1 or 2 is better simply because it came first.

Mechanically, I don't give a rat's ass. Just because a game has a) better graphics, b) additional features and c) new game play elements DOES NOT MAKE IT THE BETTER GAME.

You can mechanically stick a 3DS up your patooie, because if GSC weren't as successful and revered as they were, you wouldn't have your newer titles to bash against games that were released on older hardware, under stricter management systems and deadlines yet STILL sold millions of copies.

Mechanics don't make a game.

Pretty much this.

I love Black 2, it's a great game. But I also love the bare bones and simplicity of Red and Blue. When things like EVs and Natures and Abilities didn't exist. It has a simplistic charm, and the nostalgia factor also helps.

I started playing them because I like them. I never stopped playing them. I never stopped liking them. These games, almost in their entirety, represent what I like about Pokemon.

I like the newer games too, though. I mean, obviously, as I remain interested in the series. As impressed as I have been by B2/W2, I think G/S/C remain my favourites.

So if a game is better in every way the game isn't better?

Also a game is a picture without mechanics to drive it...

Do you know anything about how games work?

Also how the industry even works?

Holy s***, there is SO MUCH wrong with this post, I don't even know where to start! Nevermind, I'll start with "Mechanics don't make a game." First off, do you know a game is? Mechanics are the most important part! They literally make the game. Better graphics, more features, and new elements do not necessarilly make an objectively better game, but if they improve everything about the original, I don't understand how you can argue against them being better than the originals.

If this person is being serious and not trolling, they are the deffinition of being blinded by nostalgia.
