M27 here. I actually have an old Nintendo Power that has an article about "Pocket Monsters", and what a huge sensation it was in Japan at the time. A little while later, one of my friends convinced me to get it because it was "like FF6" lol. Must've been around sixth grade. I enjoyed it, and even watched the show for a while, but it eventually wore on me, and I didn't pick up the sequel. I did always have at least one friend who played, and by the time I got to high school, I was all "what, you STILL play Pokemon?" Smash Bros was the first game I ever pre-ordered on the single proposition of being able to wreck Pikachu's stupid little face with Mario and Samus. Turns out that Smash gave me back a little appreciation of Pokemon, due to the many inside jokes my friends and I got regarding Jiggs and Lucario.
I ended up becoming an app developer over the years, and I think that a pokemon-style game would be a huge hit if done properly. However, I hadn't played since BLUE, so I was working off of 15 year old memories. I also STILL had friends telling me what a fun series it is. So, I decided to pick up the latest version and see what I could learn. How far the series has come, what's improved, what needs improvement, etc. I grabbed a copy of Black 2, sat down, and had a hilariously embarrassing WTF when Hugh beat me right off the bat. Then I lost at the first gym. Then I got stomped at the second gym a bunch of times. I had moments where my pokemon came through against all odds that can only be described as magic. I came to love my starter, and ended up enjoying the game very much.
The icing on the cake was this comic: http://itsahardlife.smackjeeves.com/
Somehow, I have been sucked back in to the pokemon craze, and I love it more than ever. I'll certainly be picking up the new one when it is released.
I'm 21 and I've been playing since Gen 1 (loved Red so much!) I got all the sequels since until B/W 2 came out. I got bored of the first one and never beat it and then I just didn't care to get 2. After seeing the new trailer, I have never been so hyped to get the new Pokemon game. Wish it would come sooner! I would love to be able to get my favorite pokemon back somehow, Charmander!
