What this game must do to be the greatest pokemon game. #1

I have many ideas for what this game should do. Don't worry I am a lifelong fan and know my pokemon. I won't suggest triple types, or something awful like that. It doesn't HAVE to do these things to be the best but they certainly could help.

#1 A rival that is actually a rival

In ruby and sapphire your rival wasn't really a rival. They were so friendly and you didn't fight them often. They were a boring character and you didn't even get to fight there starters final form.

Diamond and pearl had a better rival simply because you fought more often. Still didn't like him.

Black and white were better. Cheren fought you very often and wanted to be better then you. Bianca didn't fight you often and didn't really have any sort of set goal or path. But they were actually pretty good as characters and Cheren certainly made his presence as your rival known with his constant fights with you.

Black 2 Hugh wasn't so much a rival as this

He was still awesome though. And at least he wasn't super friendly like brendan and may or "I just downed a bag of sugar!" Barry.

After 4 main games of friendly rivals I wish for a antagonistic rival. Gary and Silver remain some of my favorite rivals not because they are from the old games but because they are antagonistic rivals. They aren't buddy buddy with you the only reason they are here is to prove they are better then you.

I personally prefer antagonistic rivals over friendly rivals and its one of many things that could improve X and Y for me.

this is one of the reasons I am such a generation II fanboy,
I honestly didn't like my rival but knew he was confused and couldn't wait to fight him again.

You're not talking about the rival here. Wally was the gen 3 rival.

And Silver was just a terrible trainer

Another antagonistic rival would be fine, as long as they aren't just a Blue/Silver clone.

This. And give them a clear reason why they are antagonistic.

Because Blue and Silver (Before HG SS) were jerks only for the lulz. >_>

Wally is the true rival and steven is the true champ.

Honestly though, even though we didn't fight wally much, he was a good rival. You got to see him start his journey and they make nods to him over the course of the game showing how he's dealing with everything. He decides he wants to show you that helping him wasn't a waste and becomes strong enough to beat you. And then out of nowhere he comes up to you in victory road and provides one heck of a fight for you.

He was kind of a neutral rival. He didn't make you hate him but he wasn't all buddy buddy either. He was someone looking to surpass you. Which is kind of the point of a rival IMO. Even though it's more like you're the rival honestly lol. Since you're never striving to beat him until that final fight.
