You don't need a whole lot of reading comprehension or ability for this.

I don't know him, but I am sure he could get through the first few scenes okay and then he could just figure it out after that. It's worth a try!

I think a lot of people here will agree that playing videogames with a lot of text can help improve reading a lot. I don't know your nephew, but there are a lot of kids who would have more fun reading videogame text than read a book. Fun learning is the easiest way to learn.

Also, I might add. I work with children his age for a living and many of them love playing pokemon.

I was 7 when I got Pokemon Ruby. I could've played the earlier games, though, if I knew about them at the time.

My little cousin of 3 years old plays Pokemon and enjoys it. Although I'm the one who does most of the playing and all he does is whack the touch screen to select one of the four moves to use in battle.
