How do you think they're going to do battles over water?

Will land based Pokemon have a small island they stand on?

Fish-like Pokemon might be in a pool of water on land battles. I hope they don't just float.

I predict they'll both be on some sort of island. Either that, or certain Pokemon like Gyarados or Alomomola would be in the water with no land.

This is actually a pretty good question. I knew that the jump to 3D might force changes in game mechanics but I haven't thought about this issue in particular.

It will be like in previous games: all Pokemon just conspicuously stand on water without explanation.

I suspect this, sadly.

I think a better question is what they'll do for battles on land involving Water types. Are all the Water Pokemon just going to flop around like the Magikarp in the trailer?

They will conspicuously float as if swimming in water, also without explanation and as in previous games.

Ah, I remember the Mystery Dungeon games... The only games where Pokemon that float/fly and Pokemon that can swim were actually differently defined classes from your standard Normal type...

Can't wait to see Diglett and Dugtrio in a battle in water.
