The smogon zombies who blindly follow smogon's rules and disconnect on someone when they use a move smogon "banned" but is still usable according to the official rules.

The people who copy-paste teams from smogon and other sources.

The rage quitters who disconnect when they are losing.

Need I go on?

Edit: To everyone, IVs aren't a problem, the problem is the people who obsess over getting perfect IVs.

I've met people who

1. Are overwhelmed by EV/IV concepts and because of this hate competitive battling. So for these people it's ignorance to the mechanics that stops them from enjoying it.
2. Understand EV/IV but don't understand the tricks to obtaining them quickly, so they have the incorrect perception that it takes thousands of hours to build a single team. (This seems to be a very common reason. I always see people say they don't have the time to spend EV training for 10 hours with each pokemon, which is false).
3. Hate multiplayer games in general, so obviously competitive battling is out.
4. Have been insulted by competitive players and took it personally enough to never want to play competitively.
5. Have tried to play competitively but got utterly obliterated after they designed their "perfect" team. This destroyed any motivation to play multiplayer pokemon for them.

Those seem to be some of the more common types of people. The metagame plays completely differently than single player.

When one persons idea of fun doesn't match another's, it causes both people to become giant douche bags.
