Indeed. I love dragons, but Charizard doesn't interest me in the slightest in the game. Possibly because it's more like a bipedal dinosaur with wings tacked on than an actual dragon.

On the IGN top #100 pokémon (voted for by users) Charizard was #1, Blastoise was somewhere between #10-#4 I think.
