Also, why does everybody want Fenn to be Fire/Psychic?

That combo has too many weaknesses.

They only want it to be Psychic because they also think Chespin and Froakie should be Dark and Fighting respectively, so they can have an advantage against the one they're initially weak against, even though the starters have absolutely no reason to have such a relationship and you'll only fight the rival starter about 5 or 6 times, half of which it won't even be fully-evolved, and you'd probably want to use something other than your starter anyway. [inhales]

[Edit]: Oh yeah, Gengar. Hmm. Well because of levitate it only gets a weakness to Psychic. Immune to Toxic so can switch in on that...hm. I don't think it'd be a major difference, but Poison seems fine.

Not really, unless it was changed to /Dark.

As it is, being /Poison adds one weakness (Psychic), one resistance (Grass), and doubles up resistances on Bug and Poison. Levitate avoids the Ground weakness in most situations.

Depends on how worried you are about Psychic types, I guess. Gengar can hit them with SE attacks of its own though.

I like Monster Rancher.

No, Poison is an excellent defensive typing (grass, poison, bug, fighting). While the fighting doesn't help, with levitate, Gengar only gains psychic weakness while gaining two resistances and intensifying it's poison resistance.
