But then Unova is in alternate pokeverse USA, but it uses the same National Dex, which implies they are part of the same nation. Thus, Japan conquered America.
Or the other way around, but Bulbasaur is #001 and not Snivy.

It's clear that Unova is meant to be in the US, but if you take a look at the trainer sprites you may notice something strange.

Now, take a look at the fourth sprite, the school girl. This girl is clearly wearing a Japanese school uniform (Sailor Fuku).
Continuing on we have a waitress wearing a stereotypical maid outfit. I'm sure most people here will recognise that as a part of Japanese culture often seen in anime, and the infamous 'maid cafes' .
Next to the first gym leader trio there is a women wearing an apron. This women is meant to be a kindergarten teacher and she is wearing what a kindergarten teaching in Japan (hoikushi) would wear. Here's an example http://tcw-hoikushi.up.seesaa.net/image/1E5B9B42E7B584.jpg

Other examples include the baker woman, the 'salary woman' and the 'yankee'. They are all very stereotypical Japanese designs.
Now, ask yourself, if this game is set in the United States, then why are the people all wearing Japanese style clothing? Because the US lost the war and Japan conquered the US, enforcing it's own culture and school system on the country. |
