Iv's, ev's, smogon, and serebii have ruined the poke experience for me

The knowledge of stats being controllable always makes me want to be the type of person who can make perfect teams, knowing I don't have the patience or time for that, but it'll always be on my mind haha, while the pre-release pictures of all the new Pokemon come out before the game and cause me to try and make my team early.

With generation 6 coming I will not be reading the news on Serebii and will try my best not to worry about natures and stats, at least for in game. What are y'all's thoughts on this?

Your personality made you the type of person who wants perfect teams. Just thought I'd say that...

For Gen V I purposely avoided seeing all of the pre release pictures of new pokemon. This meant basically not visiting serebii or stuff like that for 8 months or whatever. Playing through the game brought back that nostolgia feeling I had when I was a kid playing through Red for the first time ever. It's awesome to come across a pokemon you've never seen before and catch it without knowing it's typing or stats or evolutions. Playing "blind" was such a different feeling compared to when I played Gen 2-4. It truly was the closest I have ever been to recreating the feeling I got from Red.

I plan on doing it again for Pokemon Y. It'll be easier this time as we are all getting the game at the same time and it's only 8-9 months away or so. I can't wait to dive into the 3D world and see new pokemon.

Nowadays I at least try to do some EV training. Ive moderate EV/IV training (with my favorite Pokes-disregarding tiers and all that mumbo jumbo) and have had relative success competition wise. The thing that turned me off from online battles is the same worn out teams (and strategies) over and over again-Garchomps, Terrakions, Dragonites, Metagrosses, etc etc etc. That and the rage quitting. So for the most part I stopped caring now.

It's funny because Metagross is terrible.

There is no such thing as the perfect team, and I normally don't start a competitive team until post game.

There really shouldn't be a way the non-competitive part of the game and competitive part should really mix or bother you.

I got to serebii's regularly. I don't give a flip about stats. As someone famous once said " Truly skilled trainers should try to win with their favorites."

I followed that advice...

I caught 5 zigzagoons and won.

If IVs and EVs have ruined your experience, you don't know enough about them.

I don't know how to do ivs but Evs are easy. I don't have time to mess with those lol

it's all up to your decisions. i don't care about iv's, ev's and smogon and i enjoy the ingame experience: story, exploring, catching, etc.
and now that i would like to play WIFI more often, i don't pay attention to those things, but at the same time try to make a balanced team with different types and attacks

and same thing for news. i want to see the news because i want to know more things before the release. and since this is a worldwide release, probably we won't have the whole information about new pokemons, places and story before we play it. if you want to not see it, then it's ok.

You still ain't gonna win without Ev's and Natures.

You're better off not concerning yourself with IVs, honestly. Not worth the time required to make them good.
