| The difference isn't huge in my opinion, but in the end I must go with gen 5. Snivy's line looks fine (although that's the only good thing about the line) imo. Oshawott's line is all over the place (and Oshawott himself is not so great looking) and while I like Emboar ingame, his design is not good, with out-of-place and pointless details and patterns. Tepig actually looks very decent, but Pignite and especially Emboar don't.
Gen 4 does have very lame and forgettable stage 2 starters, but the base and third evolutions are all great (well, except Chimchar maybe, but Infernape is awesome). |
| Gen VI.
1. Ooooohhh, a Water type frog. Never seen that before (MAJOR SARCASM if you cant tell already), like a million times. Horrible design, overly bulgy.
2. Really... Your Grass type just HAD to be a chipmonk :(... You guys need some better ideas. I mean that is the farthest thing from the best Grass type concept that I have seen so far. It looks SOOOOO DERPY. It is like a Grass type Bidoof, and no one wants another of those.
3. Ok, here we have something mildly passable. Though it is true that the Fire type fox has been used already, I still kinda like the look of this one. Makes me remember the goods times I had with vulpix/ninetails. :)
Gen V was a close runner up due to Tepig and Oshawatt lines. But even they were not as bad as Gen VI's Grass type and Water type starters. (Actaully kinda liked Oshawatt before he became that unweildy four legged monstrosity)

Gen 3: Treecko 7/10, Grovyle 9/10, Sceptile 4/10, Torchic 5/10, Combusken 6/10, Blaziken 4/10, Mudkip/Marshtomp/Swampert 4/10
Gen 4: Turtwig 7/10, Grotle 4/10, Torterra 8/10, Chimchar 7/10, Monferno 6/10, Infernape 8/10, Piplup 6/10, Prinplup 4/10, Empoleon 8/10

So overall, I liked generation 3 the least by far, because none of the final forms appealed to me. I didn't want to evolve my Grovyle because of the abomination it turns into.
My favorite two starters of all time are probably Typhlosion and Serperior. Too bad the latter had a crappy movepool and disappointing stat distribution.

| I'm gonna have to say gen 1, unfortunately. Charmander and Charmeleon looked awesome, but thinking back on it, Charizard was a bit of a disappointing look, even though I still like it. And the other two I can't remember liking at all once they evolved.
