Do "real" animals (aside from humans) exist in the Pokemon world?

I'd like to think so. My beliefs are that since humans are the odd ones out in a world filled with powerful creatures, there should be ordinary animals as well. I think that humans are not related to Pokemon genetically but they are to these regular animals. Of course, I may be biased because I'm Pokemon-centric....

Well that one was closed. I'm mainly using this topic as a "springboard" to other possible topic and I'd like to know what my friends think.

I highly doubt it. Real animals have only been mentioned in one old Pokedex entry, and have only been seen rarely in old episodes of the anime, which are already of questionable canon.

Plus, it doesn't make sense to have a separation between "animal" and "Pokemon". What exactly is the line?

Pokemon have elemental powers that ordinary animals don't have. We can disagree about their intelligence/sentience or whatever, but I'd say Pokemon are creatures that probably won't be feasible in real life.

If real animal didn't exist in the pokemon world, then pokemon would be its counterpart in the pokemon world. Since humans are animal in the real world, humans would be pokemon in the pokemon world :o

In the main games, no.

In other continuities, yes.

The thing is, the Pokemon world is different from ours. Wild beasts being able to breathe flames, shoot electricity, explode, etc. is simply commonplace in their world.

That doesn't rule out the possibility of ordinary creatures either. Heck, they could all be in farms, protected by humans for human use!
