I love how 'Sylveon' still doesn't give us a clue as to what it's type could be.

This is masterful trolling by Gamefreak and the localization team.

Every other Eeveelution has a color scheme and name(except maybe Vaporeon, vapor is a gas after all) that makes it obvious what type it is, but Sylveon is such an enigma...

Lacking a distinct flavour is what makes something a normal type... kinda?

I see where you're coming from, and I do believe that Normal is most likely if it is a currently existing type, but I think that it's a new type.

I almost guarantee its normal type, and if not that, a new type. Both Clefairy and Snubbull are inspired by fairies and they're normal type. Feel free to also add Togetic. The former two are also both pink, like Sylveon. Sylveon has no obvious elemental traits, a trait of a normal type.

I doubt it's flying type (or at least pure flying type) because otherwise it'd be floating. As for bug, they would have made it more obvious like the other eeveelutions by coloring it green or giving it antennae or compound eyes.

Normally the german names are dead giveaways what type the eeveelution is

Aquana: Aqua: water
Flamara: Flamme(Flame): Fire
Blitza: Blitz (Lightning): Electric
Nachtara:Nacht(Night): Dark
except
Folipurba:Folium(latin for leaf):Grass

Feelinara: Fee(fairy):fairy?
Feelinara:feline(cat-like):normal?
Feelinara:Feeling:emotion?

Strange one

Yet for some reason, there are people who think it could be Bug.

I recently discovered that the Shiny Stone is called the "Light Stone" in Japan. Two out of three of the pokemon that it evolves are Normal types. And all three of them belong to the Fairy egg group. If Sylveon is supposed to be light or a fairy, it'll probably be Normal.

So even the German name keeps it ambiguous? Damn you, Trollfreak!

We don't know if Sylveon is evolving with a shiny stone

I'm banking on Normal.

And my main argument against a new type possibility, besides the fact it would mean rebalancing type charts etc etc, is that I can't think of a plausible new type with enough existing Pokemon to retcon into it in order to make the new type balance out in distribution.

I'm not against a new type, but I believe it to be ridiculously unlikely.
