Neither. Drain Punch.

Drain Punch, Close Combat, and Focus Punch can be learned by pretty much all of those.

Brick break, in my mind reliability is worth more than power

Ok, which is better, Brick Break or Drain Punch?
I am genuinely at a crossroads with what to teach my Poliwrath in Sacred Gold

Well, Drain Punch has equal power and accuracy to Brick Break, 5 less PP, and a superior effect (at least in my opinion). I'd go with Drain Punch.

Against a dual screen using stall team? Brick Break

Otherwise, Drain Punch or Close Combat

Well, I needed to know whether or not to use Brick Break or Sky Uppercut on my Blaziken in SoulSilver but wanted to pose it as a more general question.

In your case, I'd go with a PP maxed Drain Punch. probably because i see Poliwrath as more of a puncher than a chopper.

Maybe Choice Band Close Combat though...? I'm only using it for the main story cause it's a Rom and all so anything should be fine haha

That'd do just fine.
