I just saw this ice type TM you can exchange for BP in black 2. I forgot the name but it was an ice type, and it said it will always land critical hits. What's the point of that, does it bypass anything? I mean why don't they just set the power to the base + critical hit.

so if some one boosted their defense up hella points and i land a critical hit, it'd be no different from if they never boosted their defense?

Also, Pokemon with Battle Armor or Shell Armor can't be criticalled by these moves regardless, keep in mind you won't get the double damage against these Pokemon, though they are rare.

No, not like that.

Those are set damage moves. They'll always do 40 and 20 damage, repectively.

Frost Breath and Circle Throw, the two critical hit moves, do damage like every other damage move, running off the combatants' stats.

Brcause those two moves always land crits, they'll ignore defensive boosts. It's the critical hit that bypasses the boosts, not the move itself.
