Why are monotype teams suddenly so popular?

Fads come and go. If people are having fun with monotype teams then I hope there are some really fun ideas. Regardless of gimmick, strategy, or basis a skilled player can probably make at least a decent team of their choosing. If one theme has become popular, then there's probably a reason. It doesn't mean that such an idea has become uncreative just because it's popular. The real skill comes from movesets, EV's, Natures, Choices within types(mostly how a Pokemon is used since an awesome player can make use of most of them), prediction, and just understanding the flow of a battle. I'm kinda curious as to what teams some people are using. Would't it be interesting to post different team ideas and discuss the optimum ways to use them, rather than just dismissing ideas out of hand?

It's just kinda dumb. Why would you pigeon-hole yourself like that?

Cause some people like a challenge and/or think it's fun. I can constantly win using the same strategy over and over again, but just maybe I like to try something else. I could easily put Politoed on my water team and make it easier still. But, I like that challenge.

I use a mono water team without the cliche Politoed and win about 70% of my matches in standard OU. I'm currently on a 10 win streak with my bug team. One match on Showdown, this dude was laughing cause I used all fire, then I proceeded to crush his rain team.

Also, mono-type is definitely not a fad. It takes a lot more skill to use than the standard weather teams you see everywhere. It's also a lot more fun because it adds a lot of variety to the current OU metagame.

This. Oh man, you make a rain team. You throw in the standard Politoed, a Hurricane user, thunder user, a water type, a rain disher, and Scizor or Ferrothorn.

But you guys do realize that even the best monotype team is garbage compared to a well-constructed OU team, right?

Again, refer to my top comment.

I currently have an OU monotype team for every type. Some better than others. Water, bug, psychic, and poison. All of those win 70%+ of their matches. I think it's fun when you beat a standard OU team with a monotype team.

I also have tried an all weather team (Ninetales, Politoed, Tyranitar, Abomasnow w/ Scizor and Alakazam). It has mixed results, and its fun to use. Certainly more fun that the generic weather teams.

Once Showdown stops being stupid, here are some of my monotype replays. Most are mono water, but there's a few in there that are other types.

My water team uses:

Tentacruel w/ Liquid Ooze
-Haze
-Toxic Spikes
-Venoshock (was anxious to try out toxic/venoshock)
-Knock Off (fun move to use and it essentially won me a tournament final)

Gyarados w/ Moxie (has to be on every relevant team for me. My personal favorite Pokemon)
-Dragon Dance
-Bounce
-Waterfall
-Earthquake (takes care of some pesky electrics on the switch, then switch to ..)

Gastrodon w/ Sticky Hold (keep changing that to storm drain, but never saving it. Actually, it has saved me a few times as I've ran into a lot of tricksters)
-Earth Power
-Scald
-Recover
-Amnesia
(Thinking of replacing something with Toxic to stall out Rotom W)

Ludicolo w/ Swift Swim (anti rain counter)
-Leech Seed
-HP Fight
-Toxic
-Giga Drain

Jellicent w/ Water Absorb
-Taunt
-Water Spout
-Recover
-HP Fire

Starmie w/ Natural Cure
-Psychic
-Surf
-Ice Beam
-Thunderbolt
(The basic SPIT Starmie, but still does wonders.)

This team does really well in standard OU actually. And, I love using it.

Why are some of those guys getting more for losing than you got for winning?

I can see why you love Gyarados. That thing is amazing.
