I'm playing Pokemon Heart Gold and...

The lack of this feature is killing me:
"Repel's effect wore off! Use another?"

This was one of the best things to happen to Pokemon. I hope it'll be in X / Y.

HG came out first.

It can't be that much of a deal breaker.

I don't use repels. I want my shiny Pokemon.

Edit: I know OP isn't implying that HG didn't come out first. I was just saying.

I honestly feel like repels take away from the game. As frustrating as it is to be swarmed by Zubat, or Woobat now, it's what I've come to expect. And I still hold to the silly dream of finding a legit shiny.

"Whoa! Heads up, detecting high levels of space chickens."
"No! Space chickens are a surgeon's worst nightmare."

I use repels only in dppt... And I use them for shiny hunting. But that's only in dppt. hgss doesn't need them. Neither do 5th gen games.

Trust me, encountering something EVERY 5 STEPS is annoying, at least when you're trying to get somewhere. And I know BW2 came out later, I'm just implying I really like that little feature, considering HG also seems to have slower menu navigation.

I don't know how to RNG hunt in gen 4. Or chain hunt, whatever it is.

If I had more patience to go back and read up on chaining, maybe.

In SoulSilver and White 2, throughout the story, I never used any Repels.
However, whenever I'm trying to get somewhere, I constantly use them. Sure, I kinda like shinies, but what are the chances that a shiny will be worth anything?

I'm not easily impressed; I'm usually oblivious to whatever's in front of me.
Stunfisk is the epitome of monstrous majestic legendary creatures that spew fire.

Chaining. It's the easiest legit way to get shinies, with max odds being roughly 1/205 chance. It does take a lot of patience though and is incredibly irritating to break a high chain, but if you want a specific shiny and it appears in the grass areas of dppt, it's the way to go. RNG is cheap. A program tells you when to encounter a pokemon to get what you're looking for. I see it as a means of cheating since an outside device is used to aid in finding what you want. Hence why I stick to chaining.

Ain't nobody got time for that cheat device.

I'll try chaining.
