In the show, you have a main character who has been ten for over 16 years. He's pretty much in similar time stasis as Maggy Simpson. I'd much rather the games had less in common with a show whose running theme is "it's okay to be a loser".
In the manga, anyone who gets 8 badges automatically bypasses the tournament.
that's not true, anyone who can get 8 badges can enter the tournament (using first indigo league and the current black/white.)
With that said, they could make it a tournament where the person you fight is the elite four (16 people tournament) and then the winner fights last years champion... but that would pretty much make it the same thing...
I wouldn't mind the game having character development and a more overall fleshed out story.
The system of 8 badges and fight E4 and Champion doesn't really make sense, what exactly qualifies them, as E4 when they're beaten every once in a while?
The tournament format is more realistic, also single elimination while a time saver, is not as fair as double elimination. Also, if Battle Tower, Frontier, etc. has taught anything, it's that 3V3 is unbalanced as heck compared to 6v6.
