People actually did this with rented Pokemon games?

On TV Tropes I found this:

It's also possible to make Gen I unwinnable if you release all your Pokémon in Cinnabar (except for one, who can't learn surf or fly) and then get rid of all your money and Pokéballs so that you can't catch any Pokémon. You have to pretty much be trying to do this, though. But back when you could actually rent Game Boy games, it wasn't uncommon to find the pre-saved file trapped in some place like Cinnabar with no way to catch Pokémon.

It wasn't uncommon? Then I wonder how many people actually got trolled by this.

Can't you just erase the file though?

And I saw this on a Youtube video once. It was called How to Get a Game Over in Pokemon Blue or something like that...

I never rented GBC games, but they could just delete the save.

I have always thought of if there was a game like that, but with a magikarp as your only pokemon and you were not trapped

I know, but sometimes people like me want to get an "ahead" preview of the game when playing it if they buy a used copy or borrow/rent it.

Must be funny to pull off if you're trying to prank someone :D

Well, considering you can complete the main story of any version of Pokemon in 2-3 days(assuming you don't have other things to do), a casual gamer just renting one actually seems logical.
