Why does everyone have a boner for stealth rock?

It's never given me any trouble. Ever. It's helped me a lot when people pick pokemon like forretress as their lead and it takes me 2 turns to kill it for the small extra bonus damage. Sandstorm/hail do the same damage (more damage), I don't get it. Every topic I go to.. "stealth rock is so op"

It has the potential to limit opponents' switching options and breaks through things like Focus Sash and Multiscale.

Because switching in and losing 1/4 to 1/2 of a Pokemon's HP is crippling.

Unless you got good reason, having a 4x weak to a common type isn't very smart. SR is both op and up. Without resistances 1/8 isn't a lot to lose, but with weaknesses it makes many unviable. I miss Articuno.

In 4th gen, no pokemon in OU had a 4x stealth rock weakness.

In 5th gen, the only one is Volcarona.

It limits the viability of certain pokemon *cough* Charizard *cough*

Not changing this sig until we get a new main series Tales game released on a Nintendo console in the US

Now people act like it's the worst Pokemon ever (even though that's just another example of contrarianism) pretty much solely because of one move.

You've clearly never used a Fire, Flying, Ice, or Bug type.

It cripples type doubly weak to it on arrival, and takes a large chunk out of regular weakness as well. It also breaks sashes, prevents sturdy and other stuff like that. And unlike spikes, it does it to levitating mons and fliers as well.

It limits a lot of Pokemon that could probably do a little better, like Moltres and Yanmega.

Only people who don't know about the metagame. He is very mediocre though. He has never hit actual OU once despite being such a fan favorite.
