Up + B makes it happen. I also Press A each time the ball bounces and hold it until it's caught.

Unfortunately, while effective in the handhelds, that doesn't work in Colosseum. You need to alternate between pressing the L and R buttons repeatedly until the pokemon is in the ball, then press L when it moves left and R when it moves right. Guaranteed to work 6 times out of 10.

I'd tolerate this in a spinoff.
If I wanted a turn based RPG with this kinda of gameplay, I'll just pop in Paper Mario or TTYD.
