New ability idea

I'd name that Pokemon Cecil.

I'm not easily impressed; I'm usually oblivious to whatever's in front of me.
Stunfisk is the epitome of monstrous majestic legendary creatures that spew fire.

Nice reference. One I thought of as I posted this.

I think "Wielder" means "Pokémon with the Paladin ability", not "Pokémon who did the attacking".

Which doesn't strike me as especially overpowered. Certainly not to the point where the Pokemon would have to have 80 defenses and for it to be non-Skill-Swappable to be usable.

And it'd be worthless outside doubles and triples.

Thanks for seeing things my way.

Game Freak has given up on single battles because they are broken beyond repair.

That's why we still see them as a vast majority in gameplay, and why we still see them in battle haxway. Keen observation

It would be neat, but it would need to be on a Pokemon with some serious HP and/or Defenses (not too high so that it doesn't always activate). And hopefully said Pokemon would have a way to heal itself. Otherwise it just turns the Pokemon who has it into a glorified Substitute.

Paladin: if the ally is targeted by a physical attack, and the ally has a defense lower than wielder, wielder takes damage in place of ally. Similar result with special attacks and special defense.

Good? Bad? So-so? What are your opinions?

Does shuckle get it?

Shuckle lacks the desired HP, but it could still work. It would be there to die, though, as it would receive virtually every hit. Things with set damage that don't hit either defense being the main exception.
