How's this for a viable use for pokedollars?

First, start the game with 500 pokebucks. Now instead of getting your starter from the professor who always seems to have them she/he takes you to a new poke store that opens in your town. You enter and pay $200 for your starter. Your rival "buys" hers/his.

Now as the game progresses you unlock the ability to purchase the other starters of all gens. Perhaps after beating the elite 4 you can unlock the other game's exclusive wild Pokemon.

Also maybe they could also sell fossils and items.

Now you only can buy them once. After that you'd be breeding them so no need to buy multiple.

If DLC/event pokemon come in without unlocking an actual event in game they could use the messenger to tell you the store has a special pokemon for you for free.

I like the part about buying other regions' starters.
How about other rare Pokemon like Porygon being really expensive?

That'll work too. Especially, feebass. Maybe they'd sell berries too.

While I'd love to be able to get the other starters, isn't buying Pokemon typically frowned upon in the Pokemon world?

Didn't you used to have to gamble to get porygon?

Or just buy coins, slots took way too much time.

Only in the Japanese version (or at least the original G/S/C).
In the American HG/SS you have to gamble in Voltorb Flip endlessly...

That is definitely something I did. My suggestion here cuts out that coin middleman.

In the Rocket Game Corner. But yes, you did. I just get the feeling that the Pokemon world discourages you from buying Pokemon from people.

True but the first 3 gens allowed slots.

Still don't they had to change it in the 4th gen.
