The only time I "play" older games is to transfer, or to catch things to transfer.
Its kind of wierd. I love most older games in spite of newer ones coming out. I still go back and play older Mario games, Mega Man games, Kirby games, ect.
But for Pokemon I just can't go back. Its the most recent (or at least within the current gen) or nothing.
I think its because the Pokemon series is built in such a way that each one builds upon the last so well. With other games, older ones might have different items, different stages, ect. Pokemon has different areas in older games, but none of them are so amazing that they entice me to go back, and going back means less pokemon, less attacks, worse graphics, ect. Sans areas, everthing you can find in the old games can (mostly) be found in the new games, so there never seems much reason to go backwards. At least for me.
