The reason why there isn't going to be a new Pokemon type.

In Gen 2 they added 2 new types, Dark and Steel.

The reason they added Dark was to counter balance Psychic which previously only Bug and Ghost were super effective against, and the only type to resist Psychic, was Psychic. Dark is both super effective against, as well as immune to, Psychic.

The reason why they added Steel. First, to add another type that resisted Psychic. Also they created Steel types to add a type that resisted Dragon. Without Steel, Dragons would become insanely over powered with nothing to resist them. That's not very good for balance.

So what I'm getting at is that they added these two types to balance other types that were over powered.
Right now everything sits nicely. Every type has strengths and weaknesses.

We don't need a new type just for the sake of adding a new type. That's just plain stupid.

And THAT, fairy/love type believers, is why us sane people think that there will not be a new type.
Not because we hate change. But because we love balance, and realize a new type is not needed.

I don't really like the "Fairy" type, but you're kidding yourself if you think the current type chart doesn't have its flaws - only now, the flaws are more that types are underpowered. Poison is terrible offensively (while being merely okay defensively) and Ice is horrid defensively. So, no, everything does not "sit nicely".

Ice is one of the best attacking types in the game, so it makes sense that it's one of the worst defensive types.
Poison is in the middle ground. Maybe make it super effective against Water? But even still, There are half a dozen Pokemon currently in OU that are Poison, so that has to say something.

No, I'm not implying anything. I'm stating the fact that adding a new type has the potential to destroy balance. And that there needs to be a reason to justify adding a new type.

Literally, there is no reason for a new type. And I have yet to see a compelling reason from anyone supporting a new type. All I ever see is "Oh there are like 10 Pokemon that resemble <insert new type idea>, they should make it a type!"

Assuming the Dragon doesn't get to attack first. And Water-types can do that almost as well (nearly every single one learns Ice-type moves) while having actual resistances.
