People hate Smogon because they're dumb and don't realize that they are under absolutely no obligation to care about anything that Smogon does in order to play Pokemon just as they were before. Smogon is nothing but a boon to the competitive Pokemon community.

WRONG if i want to play pvp against my friends i'm forced to either follow there ban list or not play at all.

That's a problem with your friends.

it's smogon's fault because they don't say the teir list is a suggestion.

Where do they say their tier lists are inscribed on stone tablets, that all must obey?

there forums

seriously smogon reminds me of smash brothers players they all tell you you must play by a certain ruleset to play pvp.
and the fact is no matter HOW good a set of rules are as long as there flaws with it shouldn't be forced.

Most haters are probably those that have spent very little, if any time on the forums or with the community... Kinda hard to understand how they came to make a certain ruling or ban unless you were there to see the bucket loads upon bucket loads of discussion and debate that ultimately brought them to making said ban or ruling.

For example: Swiftswim + Drizzle. I've seen it bashed in this very topic, but how many of you were actually there to see all of the discussion and debates about it? I'll give ya'll a little insight. Before anything is banned, a little topic is made to discuss the current metagame. Talk about what's viable and what ain't. What's over centralizing and what's just fine. I believe these topics usually last a month or two. Which is enough time for about a bajillion pages of non-stop discussion on the current metagame. Now, for the drizzle and swiftswim ban, it was pretty obvious that something had to be done about rain. Even after Manaphy (Its biggest abuser in the 1st 5th gen metagame ) was banned, rain was still way to strong. Just... No one knew or could really agree as to what needed to be done about it. I mean, was drizzle itself the problem? While infinite rain is certainly a very powerful form of team support, at the time, no one could agree as to rather or not it was broken. And the rain sweepers themselves certainly weren't a problem outside of infinite rain. Thus, a complex ban was proposed, the you know what hit the fan, and after everyone got done killing each other over slippery slopes and what have you, it was time for nominations! The complex ban got enough nominations, was put up to vote, and there ya go. Did everyone agree on the complex ban? Hell no.... But enough did and I believe these days it's usually seen in the community to be a not so bad thing in the long run... And as far as I can tell, it didn't lead to any slippery slopes.

To have an educated opinion on the bans and rules, you should at least read through all the debates and discussions and arguing and slippery slope hating that brought 'em to it.

Simply looking at the swiftswim + drizzle ban and saying it sucks means nothing if you can't properly back up said opinion which you can't really do unless you know everything that went into it. Simple as that.

In that case, like I said, not everyone agrees with any given decision.

And, you don't have to deal with it. There are other servers on the battle simulators that have their own rules and ban lists. If I'm not mistaken, Pokémon Online's server actually had a far bigger user base than Smogon's did back when Smogon still used PO. Or, you could play under VGC's rules which I believe is a tier that Smogon supports.

Because Smogon kills creativity.

Funny. I usually plan out my movesets before heading over there to see if those sets are any good and usually see three of my chosen moves on one set there. Yes, people just look at Zapdos, Scizor and Conkeldurr and use their standard sets. That' not Smogon's fault, that's the players. And I've never had trouble with those anyway because...well, they're using the standard sets and so are easy to predict.

I'd say Smogon supports Creativity and punishes a lack of it.

I agree with the killing creativity bit. I use the stats guide as just that, a guide, but vary. Like my Krookodile sacrifices some speed for defense/sp. defense.

No-one expects an Air Balloon Chandelure in OU

People have literally rage quit so many times when they encounter a Garchomp with flamethrower.

Smogon actually doesn't list those movesets with the intention that everyone use them. They're there so people know the most common moves that those Pokemon will carry. You'll notice they often list other options for the Pokemon and what makes them viable or not, and there are threads on the forums where people discuss new and innovative movesets.
