The only optional places Kanto had were the Power Plant and Seafoam Island, BW and BW2 had Mistralton Cave, Castelia Garden, Liberty Garden, Battle Subway, Moor of Icirrus, Royal Unova, and the ruins
That's not true at all. You're just blindly praising gen 5 without really looking at gen 1.
Kanto had a ton of optional places, like Viridian Forest, Mt. Moon, Diglett's Cave, Route 1, Route 57, Silph Co., Game Corner, etc. I could go on, but you wouldn't even understand because you're so blind and can't even.
How are VF, Mt. Moon, Silph Co. and Route 1 optional? Unless you're sequence breaking, there's no way you can skip those four, plus to move on with the TR storyline you have to enter the GC at least once.
Granted, it doesn't excuse Unova's linearity but still don't make stuff up either.
Edit: Oh, and Kanto doesn't have a route 57. --- Official Wyvern Lord of the Awakening Board

In BW, you're forced to take one set path the NPCs constantly telling you where to go. There's barely any freedom compared to Kanto. You're not forced to go to Mistralton Cave, Castelia Garden, Liberty Garden, Battle Subway, Moor of Icirrus, Royal Unova, and the ruins --- http://i.minus.com/ibaA0poozfqtmX.gif http://i.imgur.com/0Ccy1.png
