A GameStop employee told me that they got the official date for X and Y and that they will be released on Halloween.

While it's cool that the games are being released on Halloween, I'm was kinda of hoping for an earlier release date.

Also, if you check the calendar, Halloween is on a Thursday this year.

Retailers always set the date to the last possible one. We know it's coming in October 2013 so by default all retailers put 31st October 2013.

The fact that it's the day of Halloween is pure coincidence. Though it's not impossible for it to happen.

That's called a "placeholder date." They don't know the actual release date, so they just put in the last day of October until then. The employee was lying to you or was misinformed.

I wouldn't be surprised if they wait until the last Sunday in October, though. (27th)

Usually the Pokemon games come out during the weekend...so I'm hoping that X/Y come out during the weekend as well, so I can just hang out and play X/Y with my friends all day.

The original placeholder date was November 1st. This was a recent update.

Of course, it could be wrong or subject to change. Or could actually be true. Who knows?

Depends on the store. I have friends who work at GameStop and they've told me that the date was set at October 31st since the games were announced.

On a slightly related note, did you know that the word "gullible" isn't in the dictionary? It's true. Look it up.
