I played Pokemon Blue for the first time in forever. Some random thoughts...

In case you're wondering, my E4 team was Venusaur, Poliwrath, Persian, Farfetch'd, Marowak, and Mew (via Mew glitch)...

- Man, Venusaur takes forever to learn Sleep Powder in this. I went in thinking "OK, I'll get SP by around 20ish, so I can catch the legends easy). WRONG, not til the 50s! I ended up resorting to a Jigglypuff to sleep a few key enemies.

- Crit happens. I mean, I know the crit ratio is based on speed in Gen 1, but god, it was insane how many times you could get critted. And when Persian finally got Slash? Oh man, awesomeness.

- Farfetch'd is totally underrated for ingame Gen 1. He gets Swords Dance AND Agility on his own! Sure his stats are kind of crappy compared to Dodrio, but for no TMs that's pretty good. Throw in Fly (with its insane base power) and Slash and you're one mean mother duck.

- On that note, I was confused the hell out when a Machop used Karate Chop on Dux and it did regular damage...Until I learned that Karate Chop is Normal type in Gen 1 for some reason... o_O

- I was shocked at how well I remembered how to navigate Silph Co. Get card key, tele to Gary. Aw yeah.

- Marowak kind of sucks in this game. No thick club, can't learn the Rock Slide TM, and doesn't get Bonemerang til the 50s. Kind of a chore to keep leveled with the party, should've used Diglett (who was god tier as I recall).

- I regret getting Red back in the day, because Blue has totally better exclusives save Scyther and Electabuzz.

- I remembered how crappy the TMs were in Red and Blue (WATER GUN?), but man, it's a nasty reminder. Why is there Take Down AND Double-Edge? Why is Submission the only viable Fighting move outside of using Hitmonlee? Who the hell uses Bide? Bubblebeam ended up useful for Persian though so I give that one a pass.

- My random pokemon to fight when using the Missingno glitch is a level 105 Pidgeot. Kind of disappointing, I remember times when I could catch wild Squirtles and such...

Sorry for the ramble, but in short - Gen 1 may be fun and nostalgic, but it had some seriously weird quirks. I honestly think FR/LG are the better games, even in terms of most of the music. It'll be funny to play X/Y and be wowed by how vastly different things are...

It would do regular damage, anyway, even if it was Fighting type in gen 1. Flying resists it and Normal is weak to it.

I'm doing a glitch-filled playthrough of Blue right now (if anyone is interested, it's on my Youtube channel, but whatever). I have a full party of 6 (although I'm only using Jolteon) in Fuschia City with 0 badges and 152/151 Pokemon caught.

Gen I certainly wasn't the most balanced, but it's damn fun to play sometimes.
