Blastoise should learn Shell Smash topic

I get the feeling that GameFreak is leaning against giving Shell Smash to starter Pokemon, for fear of overpowering them when comparing them to other starters.

still wouldn't make a different blastoise only get water/ice/normal for coverage at most with the last move being replaced for either spinning or toxic/protect.

I always wanted blastoise to get shell smash since squirtle has been and still is my favorite starter.

if he did get shell smash I'd imagine the most common set would be something like this

- shell smash
- surf/waterspout/hydro pump
- ice beam
- rapid spin/toxic/protect

-edit-

you can also use hidden power electric/grass or whatever you need as well lol.

Before you pull out the "it would die" argument, Carracosta is a turtle, and it can learn Shell Smash. There's no reason Blastoise shouldn't learn it.

Why do you think Carracosta went extinct?

...Oh.

You noobs obviously never played Super Mario 64.

Turtles are in their underwear underneath their shells. The fact that your can ride on the shells and kill most things with just a touch justifies Blastoise learning Shell Smash.

Crawdaunt doesn't suck

Taking a closer look at Crawdaunt, I suppose it doesn't. I overlooked Adaptability, that combined with Dragon Dance makes it pretty neat. I still think GameFreak thought it could use a hand during Gen IV and that's what prompted them to give it access to Dragon Dance, "logic" be damned.

Don't talk s*** about Crawdaunt. -_-

I apologize. I have a newfound respect for Crawdaunt, as of this topic.

Carracosta looks like a rock it crawled into, whereas Blastoises shell looks like a regular turtle shell (ie it's part of it's skeleton which it needs).

Pokemon that could potentially learn Shell Smash if it was a TM:
Blastoise
Golem
Slowbro/Slowking
Kingler/Crawdaunt (one of their abilities is Shell Armor)
Lapras
Salamence
Samurott
Torterra
Accelgor
Escavalier

If you count coccoons as shells:
Butterfree
Beedrill
Beautifly
Tyranitar
Dustox
Ninjask
Shedinja
Scolipede
Leavanny
Volcarona

You see, kids, this is why we can't have nice things.

He he he, yeah, cocoons shouldn't count and they should just exclude Shelgon.

I really wanted to see Samurott with Shell Smash. It is a move from his generation, but then again it calls into question why he'd be stronger if he smashed his swords…
Torterra would be interesting too. Keep Ice types out of the equation and that would get pretty interesting.

But yeah, I think Blastoise is the most worthy. Do you think he might be OU with that? (Poor Charizard got left behind).

It makes you wonder though...would it be OU or Uber?

Though hey, we've made one starter Uber, why not another?

Nah. It wouldn't be Uber because it requires one turn of set up. Blaziken just automatically gains Speed after a turn.

In order to easily sweep though you need Swords Dance, which does require a turn.
