Or too close, in your opinion ? I can't find example in English, but I think most of Gen 1's names are very/too close to real words.
At least the next gens introduced more exotic names. :)

Many Gen.1 Pokemon have names that are closer to actual words...in japanese.
Like Ghost (Haunter), Lizard (Charmeleon) or Spear (Beedrill). --- "Many of you feel bad for this lamp...That is because you're crazy. It has no feelings! And the new one is much better." (IKEA's Lamp commercial)

It would be easier to list the ones in 1st gen that weren't spelled or pronounced like real words. --- Always interested in any Pokemon event distribution cartridges. My email is in my profile.
