Grimer. Take away the r or add an i between m and e.

The Japanese names of the legendary birds, Freezer, Thunder, and Fire. I'm not kidding, those are their Japanese names.

Thunders, Shower, Booster, Crab, Cocoon are some too.

1. You forgot Ghost (Haunter's name)

2. English words sound exotic in Japanese. They didn't use common words in the language of the game's audience, they used foreign words.

Why is everyone talking like none of the new-gens have puns/mashups in their names?

Pignite=Pig-Ignite

Liepard=Lie-Leopard

Venipede=Venom-Centipede

Snivy=Snide-Ivy

The ones whose English names are actual non-punny non-manipulated words? Alakazam, Gloom, Persian, Golem, Electrode, Ditto, Magneton, and Mew. And arguably Mr. Mime and Mime Jr. I can't think of any others.

Though my spellchecker doesn't like Alakazam and Magneton, they are real non-manipulated words.
