Sylveon's name is based off Sylvan, not Sylph.

We don't know that for sure.

I'll just leave these here.

I'm not saying it can't be based on Sylvan. I'm just saying we should probably wait until we know more than just it's name and what it looks like before we jump to conclusions.

So then... a forest dwelling nymph eh? I'm thinking it's based on the nymph caretakers of the dragon guardian of the tree of golden apples of immortality from greek myth. I think it's dragon type.

Because localisers just copy the Engrish-y Japanese names for legendaries, and the Japanese name Gu-ra-a-do-n uses up the five-character limit.

ill just ignore the fact that on the 4th page already no one talks about TCs question
and tell you guys: GROUDON is an anagram of the french word GOUDRON which means
tar or bitume. it also contains the DON from japanese which means ruler, monarch and the word ground. i think this one is a great pokemon name as it contains many different meanings.

Don also means "tooth" in Greek, and is found at the end of the name of many a dinosaur.

It's also Spanish for 'lord', so maybe it's something like 'Lord of the ground'

Correction: Groudon means "FREAKING DINOSAUR LORD OF DIRT AND TAR"

Groundon means the ground is a lightbulb.

Why not Giraffearig instead of Girafarig?

Because "Giraffearig" isn't a palindrome.
