/vp/ discovers the pokepattern.

"I've noticed a pattern, and I'm sure I'm not the only one here to do so:

Odd numbered Gens (1, 3, and 5) so far have self sufficient regional dexes while even numbered Gens (2 and 4) offer relatively few region-specific entries and fill up their regional dexes with pokemon from previous games. With the numbers they've announced for Gen 6, it seems this pattern will continue.

But here's something I haven't seen brought up yet. In Gen 2 and Gen 4, while there weren't as many new pokemon, something they DID do was make some pokemon easier to use in your playthrough than they had been in their original games, either by tweaking when they learned certain moves, or simply making them available earlier in the game.

For example, in G/S/C you're able to catch Exeggcute before you get the 3rd badge where as previously it was unavailable until much mater in the game. Further, Exeggcute learns a STAB move by level-up in Gen 2 while in R/B/Y it only learned Psychic, Solar Beam, and Mega Drain via TM.

In D/P/Pt you're able to catch Ponyta very early in the game, and it learned useful things like Flame Wheel early on by level-up as opposed to in it's original game where it wasn't obtainable until very late in the game and doesn't learn any new moves until Tail Whip at level 30.

So my question to you is this: What older pokemon would you like to see get this sort of treatment in Gen 6? What pokemon would you like to be able to catch early in the game so you can actually use them in-game? And what pokemon would you like to see have some quality-of-life style adjustments to their moves learned via level-up?"

The fact that it took /vp/ this long to figure this out does not surprise me in the slightest.

Expanded level up lists don't just occur in even-numbered gens. Indeed, just taking a look at Black2/White2's level up learn lists for older Pokemon included in the expanded Unova Pokedex shows a dramatic difference in most Pokemon's lists.

I used a Sandshrew in my ingame run, and was pleased to see the additions of Rollout, Magnitude, and Earthquake in its level up arsenal. It never learned those moves naturally in previous installments.

problem is gen 5 kinda dug itself in a rut with so many pokemon evolving 40+. because of this we will probably never get to use mienfoo or pawniard early on

Beldum and Hydreigon. They are already hard to catch and train and don 't become useful until they are in their third stage, so why should they also be caught near or after the main game is already over? They don't really need better movesets though.

Of course I'd rather see two new, preferably non dragon, pseudo legendaries that are catchable around the 4th and 6th gym.

I think it's gunna be more like gen 3 where there are many new pokemon and some old ones to fill in gaps.

I'm hoping for a big generation to make up for having a new type
