I've seen this "theory" before, biggest load of crap i've ever seen.
c: It actually seems pretty logical. Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan were inherited from Bruce LEE and Jackie CHAN, so why can't we make one from Sylvester Stallone?
This is supposedly an eveelution, not a hitmon, and looks nothing like a fighting type.
A: ...Your first point is completely transparent. Just because it's not a hitmon doesn't mean it can't be named after somebody. Heck, it works the other way, too. Hitmontop was named after tops. B: ...I present to you: MIENSHAO. http://cdn.bulbagarden.net/upload/2/20/620Mienshao.png See the arms? Notice how Sylveon has ribbons?
A. No it wasn't, it means "hit em on top" B. Those aren't the same thing. --- Everyday the sun comes up around her, she can make the birds, sing harmony! http://i.imgur.com/VBsWOu2.png <3 Ain't no woman like the one i got..
A. No it wasn't, it means "hit em on top" B. Those aren't the same thing.
A: No, it refers to tops. If you LOOKED at it, you'd see IT'S A GIANT FREAKING TOP. B: Oh, boo, hoo. If they aren't the same thing, they obviously can't be similar in any way. What's that? No, Quagsire isn't Water/Ground because Wooper is, and Wooper isn't Quagsire. --- Anatidaephobia is the fear that somewhere, somehow, a duck is watching you, staring into your soul, using its duckiness. QUACK.
... No... no, I'm not gonna accept this. There is no way you are that dense. There is no possible way. You have to be trolling.
It says so on bulbapedia
It also mentions that it's based off of A F***ING TOP! Then again, I don't really expect much from someone that actually thinks that Butterfree and Venomoth switched designs. --- More of a Pokemon fan than TherianReturns will ever be.
Hitmontop is a combination of hit, monster, and top (a reference to spinning tops and how it fights, by spinning on its head), perhaps meaning "hit 'em on top". The name is also related to Hitmonlee and Hitmonchan, both of which are parallel evolutions to it as of Generation II.
So they acknowledge that it's a combination of hit + monster (which I believe they credit as the origin of the hitmon- prefix) + top.
They also give that theory. --- For those of you starting topics about the PS4, there's a PS4 board: http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/691087-playstation-4
