Would explosion kill the Pokemon who uses it?

Like in the anime did a Pokemon ever use it? Did they just go to very low health or does it actually kill them?

It makes them faint. Pokemon don't die.

That old move? Could hurt a lot for the one using it, but wouldn't do anything to a Keldeo like me.

Explosion only kills the user in a Nuzlocke. Which is why it is on the list of moves NEVER used in a Nuzlocke, with Selfdestruct and Final Gambit.

It faints the Pokemon. I think it was in a Pikachu short movie at the beginning of a Pokemon movie. An Electrode uses it as a starting bang for a race. It fainted it, but he looked alright after it.

They get swirly eyes and fall over covered in soot Wile E. Coyote style. In some cases the Pokemon themselves don't even blow up (Clefairy in the Mt. Moon ep), but just make a big explosion in the general area. Then again, that was from Metronome so it might've been different.

Hey, you. Are you going to tell me that you actually don't remember Pineco?

Pineco?

PINECO?

PINECO?

I feel like there were a few early episodes of the anime that showed Voltorb exploding with no sign of them afterward. It's also telling that the animations for Selfdestruct and Explosion pre-Gen III had the Pokemon's sprite disappear after the explosions.

Isn't Selfdestruct called "Suicide Bombing" in Japanese?

Because... yeah...
