For the longest time, I thought Muddy Water was a special Ground-type attack

I know it has "Water" in its name, but still...

Mud Bomb -> Ground
Mud Shot -> Ground
Mud Sport -> Ground
Mud-Slap -> Ground
Muddy Water -> Water >.>

What's the point of this move anyway? Can't the Pokemon who learn Muddy Water learn Surf too?

It lowers accuracy, which can be obnoxious.

Also it only hits the opponents and not your allies, unlike Surf.

Muddy Water literally means it's Water, but muddy.

If it was called Wet Mud, then yeah, it wouldn't make sense that it's a Water attack.

Yeah. It can be a nice alternative.

Oh, that's pretty neat.

I guess I was thinking more about the animation rather than the name (and the fact that Surf exists). I've never used a Pokemon that knew Muddy Water, and I think I managed to see Sludge Wave before Muddy Water (and I knew Sludge Wave was Poison-type). So I thought there would be multiple versions of Surf for different types, but then I was disappointed to see that two versions of Surf exist for the Water-type. >.>

Granted when a Gastrodon first used it on me and I realized it was Water it surprised me too. Just saying that if you think about it though, the rules of English make the name rather explanatory.

Yeah, but then we have things like Stunfisk, a fish that spends its time buried at the bottom of the sea, who's weak to Water and Ground!

I know that's a different issue, but that one confused me also haha
