Will the protagonist in this game ever be as badass as Red?

*Expected lame fanart of how "badass" Red looks*

Was not disappointed.

Seriously, Red never looks anything like he is depicted in fanart. It's just that fanart. He always looks like some emo character from Twilight.

How he actually looks:

You do realize that even "official" variations of Red like in the Pokemon Special series look vastly different and highly stylized compared to the slight art we have of him?

And if anything he looks less emo in that. Emo does not look like anger fighting off almost impossible odds.

But thanks for proving my point about the style differing even in official works.

Red is the only PC to have a defeat in his tally.

Besides, official looking fan art gets boring. And most "official" "art" is just people taking actual images and sticking on some half-assed background, rather than actually drawn from the ground up.

No, he looks like the "try hard" badass look people use.

Post-games aren't technically canon. We have never seen proof that Gold defeated Red.

Technically this does allow the obvious chance to throw "well then how is Mount Silver canon", but lets remember that Lance was the champion again, which heavily suggests Red had left to train more. we know the place exists and is home to the strongest Pokemon in the wild in that region, what isn't canon is Gold climbing it and fighting Red. Just like the Elite Four rematches where they buff up aren't canon.

Actually no, he has the typical "really in a tough spot and having major determination" expression you see all the time in anime (typically hotblooded anime). And given Pokemon protagonists are literally blank slates for the player to insert what they feel the character is portraying him as a badass is completely fine.

If anything the games are what portray him as a emo, since he never speaks and went off on his own.

Red: Took down a gang of thieves, went to go live on a mountain
Gold: Took down same gang when they came back, beat Red
Brendan/May: Got a dragon that can control weather to stop the land and sea from trying to kill each other, stopped gang that was trying to expand the landmass/sea
Lucas/Dawn: Stopped a gang from erasing existence with the power of a reality warping Pokemon
Hilbert/Hilda: Canonically caught a legendary Pokemon that can... represents ideals or something? Took down Super Peta.
Nate/Rosa: Same as Hilbert/Hilda.

Wow, Red seems really badass.

The male one, at least, has a hat-and-sunglasses combo that looks like a Krookodile's head.

Oh so apparently Lance isn't allowed to best Red and it's Red who goes off alone eh? I always believe Red's loss is canon because the "Champions" you fight in PWT have lost a match.

wat, hotblooded doesn't involve looking like a reject from Death Note. Hot blooded characters don't "pose" for the cameras, their snapshots are them in action. That's the idea of hotbloodedness. You're confusing it with typical bishonen look who do pose for the cameras.

And that's not how emos work.

I'm not talking about emo actions. I'm talking about stereotypical emo appearance.

-Really long, straight hair that is not in any official art
-A sensitive or angry expression that again, is not in any official art
-Much older appearance than 10 or 12.
-Tight as hell attire

Gold looks worse when you remember that "that same gang" was simply a splinter of remnants running around as pathetically as a chicken with its head cut off.

Brendan and May did f*** all with Rayquaza besides wake it up. Everything else was Rayquaza doing its own thing. And the gangs in question were laughable, Rauquaza only had a job to do because they couldn't control the legendary Pokemon they'd awoken. They aren't even as competent as Team Rocket in gen 1.

Lucas again was mostly up against a gang of losers that couldn't control the forces they were messing with, the only feat notable was defeating Giratina since odds are Cyrus would have been owned by Giratina had the player left things alone long enough.

Hilbert and Hilda arguably did worse than their successors, like I said earlier.

And no, Nate and Rossa are NOT the same as Hil's in the first two games. Someone is forgetting Ghetsis blocked Pokeballs when he sicked Black/White Kyurem on the player.

Red, canonicly, is the only person to face off against a sucessful gang and win, and is the only player who we have been highly suggested as to what happened after the game ends. Until we get proof that the protagonists in the other gens did anything we have no proof they soared to the heights Red did.
