1) Not a lot of Dragon-types prior to Gen 3. That meant a team whose gaps were filled by dragonlike non-Dragon-types or a team consisting entirely of Dragonair, Dragonite, and Kingdra (assuming that Dratini would've been too weak to include in the team) - and the latter would have turned out as a Clair 2.0-type battle, something that Game Freak was probably trying to avoid.
2) Claydol isn't a fossil Pokémon.
3) Steven uses more Rock-types than Steel-types in the Pokémon World Tournament in Black 2 and White 2. In that same scenario, Lance uses Dragonite, Kingdra, and Salamence (all of which he used before) as well as Flygon, Haxorus, and Hydreigon - all Dragon-types.

1) Doesn't matter. His team all had flying types in GSC. So, until BW2 he was technically the flying champ.
2) Claydol

Ruby
Claydol are said to be dolls of mud made by primitive humans and brought to life by exposure to a mysterious ray. This Pokémon moves about while levitating.

Sapphire
Claydol is an enigma that appeared from a clay statue made by an ancient civilization dating back 20,000 years. This Pokémon shoots beams from both its hands.

FireRed/LeafGreen
It appears to have been born from clay dolls made by ancient people. It uses telekinesis to float and move.

DPP
An ancient clay figurine that came to life as a Pokémon from exposure to a mysterious ray of light.

HeartGold/SoulSilver
It is said that it originates from clay dolls made by an ancient civilization.

Black/White
An ancient clay figurine that came to life as a Pokémon from exposure to a mysterious ray of light.

Black/White 2
This mysterious Pokémon started life as an ancient clay figurine made over 20,000 years ago

3. Steven still keeps his motif of half steel half ancient in PWT. Lance can now cover the the rest of his team that aren't dragons in PWT. So of course he got rid of the flying types. It was just a clever joke about his team in GSC. I don't see why you have to get so worked up over this.

Wallace.

I've NO idea how that guy replaced Steven. Except for his Milotic, hes utterly pitiful.

Bad music,

How can this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MZg5squbZXQ

be worse than the ear grating abomination that was this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QgOH_l_g2cE

Why am I using this version of his theme instead of better, less ear killing versions like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lu6SWY3jjgE

'Cause fire red/leaf green is the most recent time that we get to fight him as a champion.

I'm being a bit unfair, though. Fire Red/Leaf Green was just pretty bad in general as far as remixes are concerned. Still, even with the existence of BW2, I find his theme to be the worst.

Anywho, I picked Wallace. While Blue and Lance are pretty piss poor champions, they at least get some points for being memorable. Wallace ain't even all that memorable.

If I should judge the champions based on difficulty, Lance is actually the most pathetic in my opinion.

His team is pathetic. Did he really need 3 Dragonites?

And when your best Pokemon is a level 50 Dragonite, you know you aren't memorable at all compared to the other champions.

But his character and theme is so amazing, that I can't vote for him.

Alder was quite disappointing, but he does own a Bouffalant, so I will give him a pass.

I haven't fought Iris nor Wallace, so I don't know much about them.

The rest are fine, so I in the end, I didn't vote.

You can't be serious.

No matter your musical opinion of the two Champion's themes, Iris's theme is by far the lesser of the two as a Champion theme. It's peppy, it's cheery. It sounds like it belongs in a Battle Frontier facility or minigame. It definitely doesn't sound the final climactic fight of your adventure through the Unova region.

Blue's battle theme has intensity. It brings to life the challenge of beating the strongest trainer in the region. But not only the strongest trainer--this is the jerk that's been one step ahead of you the entire way. Now he's taken the title that you've been striving towards and this is the battle that will prove once and for all that you're the better trainer.

If Iris's battle music was part of something else (like Battle Frontier) then I would love it, because I like the actual music. But in a Champion battle it kills the entire mood. Then combine that with her whole pink frilly princess motif and you've got one ridiculously underwhelming Champion on your hands.

Iris's outfit actually draws inspiration from Shinto priestess garb.

Also for all of his "one step ahead of you" talk, Blue never really DOES anything except get ahead of you in location.

The Champion battle itself has always been hard to take seriously anyway by being on an inferior level of battling than basically any battle facility.

You do know that Wallace is a womanizer right?

I would have voted for Blue, but there's Wallace. He was underwhelming as an 8th Gym Leader, and even worse as a Champion. Plus he had the gall to replace the amazing Steven. There's also his annoying narcissistic showman personality. ...of course it probably didn't help that I chose Treecko on my first playthrough of Emerald.

Yes, because "Shinto priestess" is the first thing I think of when I look at her.
